Leo

July 23 through August 22

October 2011

MONTHLY OVERVIEW:
October is a divine month for you, Leo, filled with much opportunity and excitement. Leading the action is go-getter Mars, which visits Leo from September 18-November 10. Shameless ambition? You’ve got it, so go ahead and use it. You’re all kinds of jazzed about a personal project, ready to seize the moment and make it happen. Mars quickens the pace of life, so you may feel a little overwhelmed by it all. Just step up your game and take advantage of this golden cycle. A little chutzpah and self-promotion will take you far! If you’re one of the “shy little kitten” Leos (there are a few of you out there), you’ll need to step out and assert yourself more than usual now.

The Sun’s presence in Libra, your communication house, brings opportunities to speak, write, teach, and share what you know through October 23. You could get involved in a media project, blogging, or just start polishing your computer skills. At the October 11 Aries full moon, you could have a chance to travel, study, or see your name in print, as Aries rules your ninth house of publishing and long-distance connections. The Aries full moon could also bring a “moment of truth” or an epiphany. Have you been ignoring your life purpose or shooing it away? At the Aries full moon, it’s gonna stop knocking politely and start barging in. Leo, it’s time to stop playing small and rise to your greatness.

On October 23, the Sun moves into Scorpio, your fourth house of home and family. While the pace won’t slow down (thanks to Mars), you’ll want to spend more time with loved ones or tending to your personal life. A move, a pregnancy, or some family news could arrive at the October 26 Scorpio new moon. You might make a fresh start with a relative, especially a female one, near this date. Try to slow down your schedule a little during the Sun’s month-long visit to Scorpio. Your relatives miss you while you’re out campaigning for whatever, and you could benefit from some restorative TLC, too.

LOVE & ROMANCE:
After a not-so-sexy summer, your swagger returns with a vengeance. Passionate Mars is in Leo until November 10, giving you quite an edge. When Mars visits your sign, you don’t even have to TRY to attract admirers—you’ve just got that confident zing that makes people stop and take notice. Mars is the warrior planet, so there can be a tendency to come on too strong. Easy there, cave girl. Even if subtlety has gone out the window, you don’t have to club your prey over the head and drag him or her back to your lair. However, feel free to drop your neckline and raise your hem an extra half-inch, or to dress in bold colors, wild patterns and shiny statement jewelry (not that you need any encouragement in that area).

Balancing this intensity is romantic Venus, which will visit Scorpio from October 9-November 2. Scorpio rules your soft, feminine fourth house, which will help tone down some of your more aggressive ways. On days that you balance this Mars-Venus dynamic, you’re an “iron fist in a velvet glove”—which can be rather seductive! On off days, your feelings bruise easily, even though Mars makes you insensitive to other people’s tender points. You could swing wildly from confident to shy, bold to self-protective. Ah well. If you don’t take risks, you’ll never grow. However, you might want to consider the ramifications if you’re feeling hotheaded or reckless, instead of just leaping into someone’s arms (or bed), or going THERE in a lover’s quarrel. The aftermath (obsessive phone-checking, burnt bridges) might not be worth that moment of heat.

If you’re trying to get pregnant, the Scorpio energy will boost your fertility, especially near the October 26 Scorpio new moon. You’ll need to slow down a little to stay in the feminine space, which can be a challenge while Mars is in Leo. Leo ladies should tune into their cycles for optimum family planning times. The October 11 Aries full moon could also be great for conceiving, as it’s in your abundant ninth house. This part of your chart rules long-distance travel, so leave city limits (and all your familiar stressors) to get into a more receptive space. Single? At this foreign-flavored full moon, a sexy someone with a hot accent could ask you to stamp his passport.

Caution: with Neptune retrograde in Aquarius, your partnership house, your judgment may be a bit askew. Coupled Leos may also be feeling resentful or taken for granted by a partner. Before you host a pity party for yourself, take some responsibility in the matter. If you’re enabling someone, or if you jumped into a commitment before getting all the details, you need to make changes on your end and set up clearer terms.

MONEY & CAREER:
October is a whirlwind of pitches, proposals, meetings, and masterminding as the Sun visits Libra, your third house of communication. You can expect to be on the go and multi-tasking like a fiend. Fortunately, you love nothing more than fielding new ideas and opportunities. In fact, that’s when you’re most in the zone, Leo. Writing, teaching, and public speaking could all be on the agenda. If you haven’t entered the “blogosphere” yet, it’s a great container for the millions of inspired ideas you’re churning out now. Turn off your ringer while you’re trying to concentrate, as you could be texting like mad.

Don’t take on anything that requires intense concentration—at least, not without a great support team. With impatient, ambitious Mars in Leo until November 10, this month could be serious short attention span theater. Irritation can increase now, too. You just don’t have time to suffer fools, or to listen to people whining and complaining. And why should you? Mars in Leo makes you proactive and a little bit brusque—your tolerance for excuses is low. You’re on a mission and you want to get things done, stat! Just make sure you don’t steamroll the more sensitive folks on your team. Although you’re wise to stop coddling them, they still need appreciation as much as you do. Trying to build your empire in a day will also guarantee that quality and relationships suffer, so scale back your plans if they get too ambitious.

The October 11 Aries full moon is a powerful day for entrepreneurship and overall life expansion. Just be extra careful not to bite off more than you can chew on this date. Your imagination is limitless, and you can see a whole world of possibilities here. Tune into your visionary side, but know that you’ll need to pick a few to focus on for starters. If you’re an author or entertainer, the full moon could bring a publishing or broadcasting opportunity or a chance to appear on stage. On October 22, a harmonious “grand trine” between Jupiter, Pluto, and the Moon brings a flood of fortune to your work and money house. Stay tuned for an opportunity to transform your career, possibly even a shift into a prominent leadership position.

HEALTH: MIND, BODY & SOUL:
Your energy is skyrocketing, thanks to turbo-charged Mars in Leo through November 10. In fact, you might be bouncing off the walls now (tranquilizer, please!)—there’s almost TOO much going on. Cut back on the caffeine and stimulants, as you’re already pumping out enough adrenaline on your own.

Fortunately, the planets start visiting Scorpio, your home and family sector, throughout the month. Harmonious Venus is here October 9-November 2, helping you extend an olive branch if there’s been tension with a relative. You’ll also have the urge to beautify your home, and possibly even host a potluck or house party. Spending time with your mother, children, and female friends also helps to balance out the month’s stressful moments.

The October 26 Scorpio new moon is a good date to reconnect with family or to get in touch with your feminine energy with some pampering. How about a weekend retreat in the country for pumpkin and apple picking, or an escape near water? At the very least, the end of the month is great for a little “staycation” with lots of bubble baths, tea, and coziness. You may have to force yourself to take this downtime, but remember that you’ll be much more productive once you do. The Capricorn moon on Halloween falls in your health and fitness sector. Indulge in low-sugar treats or bob for apples instead of dipping them in caramel and sugar.
