Gemini

May 21 through June 21

December 2011

MONTHLY OVERVIEW:

December is a momentous month for you, Gemini, perhaps more than for any other sign. You’ve reached a turning point, one that’s been building since near your birthday. On June 1st, a Gemini solar eclipse shook your world and your identity, turning many Geminis inside-out and upside-down.  Eclipses are like rocket fuel, pushing you off the fence and into action. They’re cosmic changemakers, and having one in your sign only happens every 20 years or so. It’s as if the universe has decided that you need a big push forward.

On December 10th, the Gemini full moon completes this arc with a total lunar eclipse. If that sounds major, it is! This eclipse is the granddaddy manifestation day of seeds planted near your last birthday, and it will end your year with a bang. This is actually the third Gemini eclipse in a series that will fall on the Gemini/Sagittarius axis through 2014. The first was December 21, 2010, so think back a year, too. (For more on this eclipse series, see http://www.astrostyle.com/Scopes/Features/features_eclipse_solar_lunar.htm)

It’s time to embrace the new person you’ve become—and to keep shedding that weathered old skin that no longer reflects or protects you. Not that you have to do this all alone, Gemini. On December 9th, changemaker Uranus ends a five-month retrograde in your group activity house. If you felt disengaged from your social circle or out of sync with the team, Uranus’ return to direct (forward) motion will bring interesting collaborations back into your life. All of your relationships improve after the 13th, when your ruler Mercury also goes direct. Mercury has been retrograde in Sagittarius, your partnership sign, since November 23rd. Disagreements, misunderstandings, and even old relationship issues have tainted the last three weeks. In the second half of December, you’re back on track with the most important people in your life.

On December 25th, another challenging retrograde ends. This time, it’s Jupiter, planet of expansion, which has been backlogged in your twelfth house of closure since August 30th. For many Geminis, it’s been a period of intense emotion and even hibernation. If you treated the fall like a spiritual or artistic retreat, or learned to surrender control instead of grasping for it, you might just enter 2012 a calmer, more enlightened being. However, if four months wasn’t long enough to achieve enlightenment (we kid), you’ve got another six months to practice before Jupiter enters Gemini next June, setting off a whole new twelve-year life cycle. Emerge from that private pod on New Year’s Eve, when the Aries moon puts you in the mood for a festive group gathering. Celebrate with the eclectic friends and loved ones who make your life so colorful.

LOVE & ROMANCE:

Relationships and commitments are a hotspot in your chart during the holiday season. On November 25th, a Sagittarius solar eclipse infused your relationship house with unexpected new energy. This eclipse will play out between now and your next birthday, shifting your dynamics with the people closest to you. Since eclipses sweep away anything old and outmoded, you may soon discover that your tastes, desires and values have changed. If you’re in a couple, it’s time to explore: what do you both want?

Coupled Geminis may have trouble hashing out a common agenda during the first half of December. Your ruler Mercury, planet of communication, is retrograde in Sagittarius, your relationship sign. It could take quite a few tries before the two of you get through to each other. Before you can really move forward, there may be some past indiscretions or old hurts to address, too. Now is the right time to address that. Both the eclipse and Mercury retrograde are challenging you to set up your relationships on a clear and honest foundation.

Since Mercury retrograde can bring back people from our past, it’s possible that an ex-love returned last month, or will in the first half of December. Even if this person doesn’t show up in body, the imprint of the relationship could still be shadowing you. Reflect until you discover what’s left unresolved. Your mind will always return to the “scene of the crime” until you really drill down to that bottom line. Identify your first point of resistance by simply asking yourself, “Why am I afraid to move forward?” Write down or say aloud the first thing that comes up. Then ask yourself, “what else?” until you get all the way down to the nitty-gritty baseline fear. Once it’s discovered, you can work on transforming it, freeing yourself to move forward. Even if you give an old love (or your current partner) a second chance, you should still regard this as a NEW relationship. If you can’t start it from a place of trust and integrity, it will ultimately break down again. Keep that in mind and do your own inner work.

A huge deciding moment arrives with the December 10th total lunar eclipse in Gemini. This full moon echoes the June 1st Gemini solar eclipse, a new moon that set off a huge ripple effect in your personal identity. This lunar eclipse is like a coming-out party for you, a day that puts you deeply in touch with your own truth and makes you express it. There’s no more hiding, no more holding back. You are who you are, and anyone who wants to join Team Gemini will have to adore and celebrate that.

Some Geminis may decide that a relationship feels too confining, and that you can’t suppress who you are for a second longer. Your individuality is too important to sacrifice. (As Marianne Williamson said, “don’t dim your light so that somebody else can shine.”) Of course, you don’t have to part ways, or resign yourself to a lifetime alone, Gemini. It’s up to you to honor yourself and lead by example. People will only get away with what you allow them to, so before you accuse someone of not appreciating or respecting you, ask honestly: have I appreciated and respected myself?

A second turning point comes at the December 24th Capricorn new moon, which falls in your eighth house of intimacy. Any steps forward that you take now are in the name of permanent bonding, a declaration that you’re officially in—or officially out. An engagement, pregnancy, or some other official commitment is also possible in the next six months.

MONEY & CAREER:

Some of your ambitions go farther when you join forces, and some projects are best kept as solo ventures. In December, you’re distinguishing where collaboration can be helpful, and where you still yearn for autonomy. If you secretly long to see your name in lights, that’s fine, Gemini. Just don’t be surprised when others come knocking, knowing that a pinch of your star power could take them farther, too. Hold off on inking any deals until at least December 13th if you can. Mercury, ruler of contracts, is retrograde in your partnership house until then, so keep things in the talking phases for now.

Another reason to wait? On the 10th, the Gemini lunar eclipse gives you a big push towards solo success. You don’t want to share a big slice of the pie, only to discover that you’re the one doing all the work—and you’ve given away profit, credit and rights. Stake out your terrain and be clear which turf is a “no trespassing” zone. You don’t have to be unfriendly about it; just settle it in your own mind (and draw up some legal documents for protection). This is your baby, after all!

Working with people get easier after December 9th, when erratic Uranus goes direct in Aries, your group activity sign. Uranus has been retrograde since July, and you may have pulled back from people you normally enjoy. Hotheadedness, arguing or irrational behavior may have kept you from finding common ground. This should improve now. Technical projects were also thrown off course by Uranus retrograde, so if your work involves a digital or new media aspect, it will go smoothly again.

After the 21st, the Capricorn Sun give you a month to focus on personal finances, especially your long-term goals. The December 24th Capricorn new moon brings new energy to shared resources, joint ventures, real estate, or intellectual property. You may decide to combine your money or resources with someone else’s, or enter into some kind of binding agreement. A move is possible in the next six months, or you may become interested in investments. Check out Ramit Sethi’s bestselling book I Will Teach You to Be Rich. You’ll love the tagline: “No Guilt. No Excuses. No B.S. Just a six-week program that works.” Nice, short and to the point—just how Geminis like it!

HEALTH: MIND, BODY & SOUL:

Take inventory, Gemini. You’re definitely a little run down, if not exhausted. Although exciting things are happening, you need to regulate your energy, get more rest, and take time out to tune into your soul. Jupiter is halfway through its yearlong visit to Taurus, your spiritual and healing twelfth house. However, since Jupiter has been retrograde the entire fall, your desire to retreat—or your body’s demand for it—may have reached critical mass. That’s because your subconscious is the most active part of your life right now, and there are moments you may feel like you’re in a waking dream. Perhaps you just took a long stride back to assess whether you even care about the same things anymore.

On December 25th, Jupiter resumes forward motion, and you’re able to apply the whisperings of your inner voice into practical action. Remember, Gemini, the first half of 2012 is about letting go, closure, and completing any karmic cycles from the last twelve years. You may have had to deal with an addiction, a self-sabotaging pattern, or some lingering grief that you never completely addressed. In June, when Jupiter enters Gemini, it will be like night and day. Doors will swing open and you’ll be the zodiac’s rock star. (And what good rock star doesn’t take an occasional trip to rehab?) Clean your slate by doing the important inner work, so that you truly can make a fresh start.
