Cancer

June 22 through July 22

December 2011

MONTHLY OVERVIEW:

Are you rushing to start those resolutions, Cancer? The Sun is in Sagittarius until December 21st, activating your sixth house of health and organization. You may be under pressure to meet a deadline—or you may be piling the stress on yourself. Take it easy, Crabcake, because you’re up against an extra challenge. Communication planet Mercury is retrograde (backward) in Sagittarius from November 23-December 13, which can cause information to get scrambled, systems to break down, and communication to go awry. You may also have picked up sniffle or a virus, since Mercury retrograde in your health house makes you extra susceptible to germs. Grr!

There are several reasons to wait until the second half of December to forge ahead with your big plans. Two other planets, Uranus and Jupiter, also end long retrogrades this month, putting your life on the fast track. Uranus, planet of sudden changes and innovation, goes direct (forward) December 9th in your tenth house of career. Since July, Uranus has made your work life a bit unpredictable, and you may have lost traction around a project or plan. Now, it’s easier to get back to those exciting long-term goals that had you so psyched all spring. Lucky Jupiter goes direct on December 25th in your house of groups and technology. If you’ve had trouble gelling with friends and collaborators, Jupiter direct will bring the team back together.

Another big moment comes at the Gemini total lunar eclipse on December 10th. Gemini rules your twelfth house of closure and miracles, so this could be a divinely arranged day. It’s the grand finale of the Gemini solar eclipse from June 1st, so think back to events that transpired near that date, as well as near December 21, 2010 (which was the first Gemini lunar eclipse in this series). Is there unfinished business in part of your life or something you’ve outgrown? Over the last six months, you’ve been preparing to either let go or dive in deep.

The December 10th lunar eclipse is a portal into a new reality, and like it or not, it’s time to walk through that door. Because the twelfth house rules endings, someone may be “eclipsed” out of your life, or you may see someone’s true colors vividly, leaving no more uncertainty about this person’s true intentions. If it surprises you, chances are, you weren’t paying attention to signs that have been there all along.

After the 21st, relationships get a boost from the Capricorn Sun, and also by the Capricorn new moon on December 24th. Could a holiday proposal be on the agenda? If you’re single, get under that mistletoe on Christmas Eve, because you could meet someone with real potential. New Year’s Eve has you craving VIP treatment, thanks to the Aries moon in your upscale tenth house. This could be the year to splurge on exclusive tickets, a formal outfit and a five-star experience.

LOVE & ROMANCE:

December is sprinkled with opportunities for love all month long. Romantic Venus is in Capricorn, your seventh house of partnership, until December 20th. On the 21st, the Sun enters Capricorn, followed by a new moon three days later. You’re definitely looking for someone to hibernate with for the winter and beyond. If you’re already in a relationship, this is an ideal time to reconnect and enjoy quality time. Remember that you’re in this together, and life can be so much easier when you work as a team. On December 24th, the Capricorn new moon helps you start fresh, make a serious commitment, or plant seeds for meeting someone special in the next six months.

But first…is there something you need to release to clear the way? The December 10th Gemini lunar eclipse is an important day for closure or release. You’re certain to have some kind of epiphany—and it’s actually the sum total of feelings that have been building up (perhaps subconsciously) since June. You’ve been feeling pushed, guided and serendipitously led ever since the corresponding Gemini solar eclipse on June 1st…but where? Until today, you haven’t been clear. It’s been hard to trust your own feelings, especially since you also have a lot of emotional hooks and investments in the situation. Loosening your grip on the familiar is never easy for your sign. This eclipse makes it clear: the situation is changing, and even if you hold on tight, it’s going to be pried out of your control. Everything must transform, either evolving to its next shape, or ending so that you can make space for something new.

If someone in your life has been giving mixed signals, or you’ve been infatuated with someone whose trustworthiness is in question, the eclipse will shed light on what’s hidden. Perhaps you haven’t really wanted to look until now. But it turns out that NOT knowing where you stand is actually much more painful than hearing the truth. For all you know, the situation is a lot better than you thought. Perhaps it’s a solid relationship with some unhealthy elements that, if you’re both willing to put in the work, can be healed in the coming year. Use the eclipse to discuss those hidden feelings and fears that are blocking you both from taking things to the next level.

MONEY & CAREER:

You’ve got enough paperwork, files and junk piles to fill a team of sleighs, so spend the first half of December on a massive decluttering mission. Communication planet Mercury is retrograde through December 13th, making this the perfect time to plow through anything in desperate need of cleaning and organization. You’ve got a lot on your mind, and as you sort and systematize, your brain gets a chance to unravel its knots. You might even do your best problem-solving with a mop and a bucket, rather than staring at your computer screen or fretting while you procrastinate. Are you due for a gadget or computer upgrade? Wait until the 13th, as Mercury retrograde is an unfavorable time to buy tech equipment. However, you can certainly clean off your hard drive or dump old numbers from your address book.

Your career has undergone a revolution this year—or at least, the early stirrings of one. In March, changemaker Uranus began a seven-year visit to Aries, your tenth house of success and ambition. Many Cancers began a new line of work, switched companies, or made a radical shift in the way you do business. Exciting—until July, when Uranus dipped back into retrograde, scrambling the signals. Instead of being the hot upstart, you’ve become more like the rebel (with or without a cause) facing resisting from the higher ranks. The tenth house rules authority, and with Uranus here, you’ve had the desire to stir things up or change the system from within. However, your own personal “Occupy Whatever” movement may have gotten you in more trouble than it was worth. Your excitement around a project may have flagged as a result.

Fortunately, Uranus returns to direct (forward) motion on the 9th, restoring your fiery convictions—and getting “’da man” off your back. Uranus rules technology, so if you do business online, you could pick up hot new client or see an upsurge in your web traffic. An exciting mentor or some well-deserved acknowledgment could restore your enthusiasm for a project that got shelved during Uranus retrograde. Did you dismiss it as “weird” or unworthy of your attention? Turns out you weren’t crazy after all, Cancer—you were just ahead of the curve! Get used to it. With Uranus in your career house until 2018, you’re going to be an early adopter and an innovator. You’ll need the courage to champion your vision.

Have you felt like someone’s been sabotaging you, or just hasn’t been supportive in the way that you need? This traces back to the summer—specifically, the June 1st Gemini solar eclipse. Near this date, a hidden agenda may have been revealed, or you could have seen an unsavory side of someone’s character. It’s possible that a colleague or friend was struggling with dark personal issues and projecting them onto you. This unsettling experience made you second-guess yourself, and also caused you to look a little deeper at your own desires. Had you put all your eggs on one basket? The solar eclipse reminded you to keep your options open—and to root out where codependence was complicating your life.

On December 10th, the Gemini full moon is a total lunar eclipse, finishing this phase with a flourish. Gemini rules your twelfth house of endings. If you’ve been uncertain whether to stay or go, to trust or not, you may be pushed to take a leap of faith. In some cases, a job could end, a client or boss could leave, or someone with whom you’ve gotten too intertwined could force change upon you. One way of life is being eclipsed out to make room for another. While it may demand some quick adapting, this is all designed to push you onto a more “right-sized” path. If you feel taken by storm, it’s only because you’ve ignored the signs leading up to this. Now, the universe has decided that a less polite approach is needed—otherwise, you’ll never take action!

HEALTH: MIND, BODY & SOUL:

Take special care of your well-being for the first half of December. Mercury retrograde in your sixth house of health could cause stressful breakdowns and make you extra susceptible to those airborne germs and contact infections. Load up on the prevention and drink a fresh-squeezed juice a couple times a week, if not more. Go ahead and be that neurotic person with the hand sanitizer, and don’t feel guilty about saying “no” to invitations or requests, especially when your schedule is this overbooked. You need to take it easy!

Have you been sticking your nose in someone else’s business, or micromanaging people’s lives? On December 10th, the Gemini lunar eclipse comes barreling in with the mantra “codependent no more”! Since June, you’ve been learning some serious lessons about getting overly involved in other people’s problems. Frankly, you may have started to lose interest in those everyday microdramas and breathless “can you believe she said that” calls from your friends. This full moon eclipse makes it crystal clear how little you have to gain from letting your time be wasted. You’ve got a mission on the planet, and on the eve of 2012, you’re getting pretty darn clear about what that is. From this month forward, make a vow to keep your relationships healthy, and to honor your personal resources by using them to make the world better. A wee bit more rewarding than listening to complainers!
